Media Fast By: Mariah Cathryn

Media Fast

This week my family and I did a media fast.  We could not watch TV, listen to music, watch movies, or get on any media device for seventy-two hours. We started on Monday, January 21st at five p.m. and ended on Thursday, January 24th at five p.m.

The electronic device that I missed the most would probably be my iPod. I found myself thinking about what shows would be on TV. I also missed listening to music when I was getting ready both morning and evening.

My prediction about the media fast was completely true. I thought that I would like the media fast, and I did. But it was a little complicated at first. My family and I got creative and had a lot of fun. This experiment was both easy and hard for me. It was easy because I found other things to do like staining a bird feeder, playing games with my family, and reading a book. The hardest parts were wanting to turn on the TV, text my friends, or check my email. Overall the media fast was not that difficult.

I learned that I don't have to have media to live. I can go on without media if it is necessary. I also learned that time goes by faster when you are consumed with media. We should enjoy our time on earth and not pass it by.  In the future I will not spend so much time on media and just try to enjoy life. YOLO.
